How do I clean my pre-finished steel Wayne-Dalton garage door?
To clean the surface of your pre-finished steel garage door, simply follow these easy steps annually: Remove dirt, chalk, and mildew by the use of a diluted solution of common bleach OR mild detergent at a concentration of one ( 1) cup in five (5) gallons of warm water. (Caution: Never Mix Cleansers and Bleach!) Rinse with clear water after washing and allow to dry completely. For added protection of a pre-painted steel door, apply wax suitable for automotive use. You can wipe the inner surface clean like you would a range or refrigerator.
How do I paint my pre-finished steel Wayne-Dalton garage door if I want to match my home's color?
To prepare your pre-finished steel garage door for painting, it is important to give it a good cleaning, but do not wax. Remove surface wax to prevent the paint from peeling or flaking. Remove surface scratches which have not exposed the metal substrate by lightly buffing or sanding with 0000 steel wool or No. 400 sand paper to create a smoother surface for painting. Do not over buff or sand the garage door, because paint will not adhere to the door if the surface is too smooth. Do not attempt to remove scratches if your steel door surface has a finish painted texture representing wood grain, stucco, etc. because of the increased danger of exposing the metal substrate. Simply paint them with a high quality metal primer. Follow drying time on primer can label before applying topcoat. To prevent rust from forming, treat any scratches that have exposed the substrate by sanding the exposed area lightly and then painting with a high quality metal primer. Follow drying time on primer can label before applying topcoat. After properly preparing the surface according to the above instructions and allowing it to dry thoroughly, coat the door with a premium quality latex house paint. Follow the paint label directions explicitly. Oil base paint is not recommended. Note that if substrate is exposed, painting with latex paint may cause accelerated rusting of steel. Follow previous instructions on priming the door for painting.
How important is insulation in a Wayne-Dalton garage door?
Insulation is important in a garage door for many reasons. In addition to helping control the temperature, Wayne-Dalton's patented design and foamed-in-place insulation add strength to your door while reducing noise. The amount of insulation a garage door provides is represented in its R-value, which represents its resistance to heat flow. It is important to select a garage door with an R-value that is consistent with your local climate and lifestyle. Ask yourself these questions when deciding the R-value that best fits your needs: Is my garage climate controlled? If you heat or cool your garage, insulation is very important. Having a well-insulated garage door will keep your heating or cooling costs down by reducing the heat flow through the door. What climate do I live in? Someone living in an extreme hot or cold climate would likely require a garage door with a high insulation value. Even in milder climates, having an insulated door can still affect the temperature in your garage by a noticeable amount, as well as provide additional benefits. Is my garage attached to my house? If your garage is attached to your house, the insulation value of your garage door affects the insulation of your whole house. The R-value of your walls affects how much heat escapes from your house into your garage, and the R-value of your garage door affects how much heat then escapes into the environment. Insulating your garage well will help keep down the heating and cooling costs of your home. In addition, Insulation helps reduce the noise of your garage door as it opens and closes. Do I spend a great deal of time in my garage? People who like to work on their cars or who have workshops in their garages may want their garage to be more insulated, especially if in a colder climate. Is there a bedroom or other interior room above my garage? Many houses are built with rooms over the garage. Whether this room is a part of the house or is a separate apartment-style room above an unattached garage, the insulation value of the garage can greatly affect the insulation of the room. And, again, a higher insulation R-value can equal lower heating and cooling bills. In addition, insulation helps reduce noise.
What is the purpose of the counterbalance cables on the TorqueMaster system?
The cables wrap around the drum, pulling the door up. When let loose, they bring the door down with the help of gravity. The cables must also be completely behind the door and rollers.
Do I really need that spring to open my door if I have a garage door opener?
YES. The spring is the counterbalance for your garage door. If the spring is broken and you continue to use the garage door opener, you risk damaging the garage door opener as well. If your spring is broken, call us for repair, and stop using it.
Wayne Dalton Garage Door Opener Questions
How do I get an additional remote?
We should be able to get an additional remote for you. We will need the brand and model number from your garage door opener. If you have a remote that works, the easiest way is to bring it in to our office, and we can match it.
How do I teach a remote to my operator?
The best way to be sure is to check your owner's manual. The following procedure will work with most openers: Press and release the program switch, which is located on or near your circuit board, the program status indicator will come on solid. Within 30 seconds press and release the desired button on the remote. Once the remote is learned, the program indicator will flash then go off. The next time you press your remote, the door should activate.
How do I teach my wireless wall station to my Prodrive or I-Drive operator?
Press and release the program switch at the left rear side of the operator, (for I-drive openers, press the red button on the motor)the program status indicator will come on solid. (for I-drive openers, the operator will beep). Within 60 seconds press and release the light switch on the wall station. For operators with yellow antenna wires the convenience light will flash on and off three times indicating a successful learn, for all others operators the program status indicator will extinguish indicating a successful learn. Note: For wireless wall stations with a green L.E.D. the wall station will require activation if new and if used will require reactivation to enable teach commands to be sent. See What is the 10-5 procedure
How far away from my door should I be able to operate my door using a remote?
Ideally, your remote should open your door from 50 to 75 feet away. Note: Weather conditions, radio frequency interference from outside sources, and electromagnetic interference such as radiated by a DC motor can adversely affect the distance from which you can operate your operator.
What can I do to increase the range of my wireless accessories?
Verify that the antenna is fully exposed. For best results, have it straight up and out.
How many transmitters can I program into my opener?
Wayne Dalton operators with yellow antenna wires can hold up to 8 transmitters (remotes). All other operators can hold four remotes. Other brands vary.
How many transmitters can I program into my I-drive opener?
idrives hold up to six RF devices. The storage register is a first in/first out. If you program a seventh device it will knock out the first programmed device. This includes wall stations, keyless entries, and remotes.
Is my operator CAR2U compatible?
All Wayne-Dalton garage door operators operating at 372.5 or 372.0 Mhz are CAR2U compatible. Wayne Dalton Garage Door Operators operating at 303 Mhz are not CAR2U compatible. Other brands vary.
Is my operator HomeLink compatible?
All prodrives are HomeLink compatible. Quantum and Classic Drive operators with green antennas are compatible with earlier versions of HomeLink, those with white or yellow antenna wires are compatible with all versions of HomeLink. Quantum and Classic Drive operators with black antenna wires are not HomeLink compatible. Marantec operators are HomeLink compatible, but programming is a bit different. Contact our office if you have questions.
After my door opens the light flashes on and off for a minute, how do I correct this?

The most likely cause is the open travel limit is set too far open and the carriage is striking the stop bolt. Turn the OPEN travel adjustment screw at the bottom of the operator clockwise to decrease amount of open door travel. turn will equal 1 less door travel.

My door will not close, from open it travels a short distance downward and then reverse to full open, what is the problem?
Problem is most likely photo safety sensor related. Use constant pressure on the push button or up/down button on a wireless wall station; if the door closes all the way with constant pressure on the switch it is a safety sensor issue. Verify alignment of sensors, clean apertures with a slightly damp cloth or paper towel, verify connections at motor head and ensure no staple has broken or pierced a wire. If none of these correct the issue, replace the safety sensors.
I have an I-Drive opener.  My door stops short of the floor, what is the problem?
Rerun the profile routine pressing downward on door as door comes down onto the floor the first time, release downward pressure when door starts to open the second time
What should I do if my I-Drive unit is not operational?
Unplug your unit. Check the outlet for power. Wait 15 seconds. Plug the unit in. It should beep twice. If it does not, please contact us.
My door travels all the way to the floor then reverses and returns to full open, what is the problem?
Verify that no object is under the door, such as a screw driver or stone. Verify door is not tight against jambs/jamb seals, verify there is no binding between track and door edges (track tight inward to door)
Can I mount the photo eyes high above the door to get them out of site?
No, photoeyes are safety sensors and need to be mounted no more than 5" above the floor to the center line of the safety sensor bracket
Can I operate my opener without the photo eyes?
No, photo eye safety sensors are required on all Quantum, Classic Drive and Prodrive operators...In fact, they are required on all operators installed now, except for the Idrive opener in most cases. (there are some exceptions to that too). It is a fail safe system, and they will not operate at all without them.
Can I run my operator from an extension cord?
No, it is not recommended because it is a potential safety issue and a code violation.
What is the current (amperes) draw of my operator?
The operator is rated for 5 amperes. Normal current draw on a well installed and function door will be around 2 amps
What is the warranty on my operator?
Warranties vary by model number, see your owners manual for warranty specifics
What is the warranty on the batteries?
Batteries are not warranteed

Gate Opener Questions
My solar powered gate opener is running very slowly.  What could be wrong?
You should check your battery. Make sure it is charged. If it has a place to put water, you should check that at least every couple of months. If the water is empty, there is a chance the battery may not be rechargeable. We recommend a sealed battery that does not require water.
I have an AK-1 or AK-11 keypad, with a solar powered gate opener, and the keypad is beeping.  What is wrong?
You may have low voltage on your battery. You need to make sure your battery is fully charged.
My gate won't close. Why?
If you have a keypad with the latch code capability, you need to make sure you have not entered the latch code. With an AK keypad, if the LED is green, you have entered the latch code. Just enter the latch code again. The LED will turn red, the gate will time out, then close. If this is not the issue, and you have checked your battery for voltage, contact us for service.
How do I enter a new code into my AK keypad?
# 9 # 123456 01 # four digit code # four digit code # 01 # ** #
